Updated regulations regarding Declarations of Death Upon The Basis of
Neurological Criteria were adopted by the Board of Medical Examiners.
On May 7, 2007 the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners adopted regulations
(N.J.A.C. 13:35-6A.1 -7 ) updating the methods by which brain death should
be diagnosed and confirmed. Recognizing the significance of technical
advances in the field of neuroimaging the new regulations allow confirmatory
objective tests which measure intra cranial circulation. The updated regulations
also further delineate the speciality training and/or credentialing required
of physicians authorized to declare death on the basis of neurological
criteria.
